Eight members of Lowell House have formed an organization to perpetuate the ringing of the «zvon,» Lowell’s set of 17 Russian bells.
The stated purpose of the Lowell House Society of Russian Bell-Ringers is to improve the quality of the bells’ performance and insure their maintenance. Any member of Lowell House may join.
The bells will not be rung other than at the traditional times for their performance, Edmund M. Parsons '58, manager of the organization, said. These times include 12:30, 12:35, and 12:40 p.m. every Sunday, before high table, and on «special occasions.»
The zvon, which plays on a six-tone Eastern scale, was purchased from a Russian monastery and donated to Lowell House in 1931.
